HISTORY of the Development of the ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean Affiliate

The history of the Puerto Rico & Caribbean Affiliate began in June of 1996 during the ICSB Board of Directors Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, when Dr. José M. Romaguera of the International Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI), from Puerto Rico, petitioned the Board of Directors to accept Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, as a new ICSB affiliate. The petition was accepted in principle. They requested the corresponding affiliate payment and for the first time in its history asked that an affiliate development plan be prepared for the next ICSB Board of Directors slated for November of 1996.

During the next few months IEI made all corresponding payments and prepared the required documents.

In the November 2, 1996 meeting of the ICSB Board of Directors (Montreal, Canada) the requested documentation was submitted, in addition a petition was made to host the 2001 (later was changed to the 2002) ICSB World Conference. The Board of Directors approved the entire request.

After November 2, 1996 letters were sent to the different universities inviting them to become founding members of the ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean. In addition, the new ICSB Affiliate co-hosted the Executive Business Roundtable with the keynote presentation of Dr. David Birch on March 13, 1997. This event marked ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean affiliate first activity.

In April 1997, all the Universities who had replied to the affiliate petition were invited to the 1st ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean Affiliate Membership meeting on May 3, 1997. The members for the first Board of Directors of the affiliate were elected; their first task was to prepare all the documentation to create the non-profit corporation.

In October of 1997 ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean co-sponsored the second Executive Business Roundtable with Tom Cannon. In March of 1998, then President of ICSB Lois Stevenson visited to participate in the third Executive Business Roundtable that the affiliate co-sponsored. Dr. William Bygrave was the keynote speaker of the fourth Executive Business Roundtable, again promoted by the ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean affiliate in March of 1999.

In January, 2000 the ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean affiliate celebrated its first Entrepreneurship Summit. And in June, 2002 this very young, but daring affiliate hosted the 2002 ICSB World Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We had delegates from over 33 countries around the world.

We are still a young affiliate, who believes in the ICSB mission, several affiliate presidents, have served the ICSB Board of directors in various capacities—as Board Presidents Dr. José M. Romaguera; 2003-2004; Dr.Zulma Quiñones 2006-2007; and Dr. Jaime Santiago Canet, has served as SVP of Marketing for over two years.

Trasfondo Histórico del Desarrollo del Filial de ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribe

La historia del ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean comienza en junio de 1996 durante la reunión de la Junta de Directores de ICSB en Estocolmo, Suecia. En dicha reunión el Profesor José M. Romaguera presenta petición del International Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) para que se acepte la creación de una filial del ICSB para Puerto Rico y el Caribe. La Junta mundial aceptó en principio la creación de dicha filial y pide el pago correspondiente y que por primera vez en su historia se preparada un Plan de Desarrollo de la filial para la próxima reunión de la Junta pautada para noviembre de 1996.

De junio 1996 a octubre 1996- el IEI realiza los pagos de rigor y prepara la documentación requerida.

El 2 de noviembre, 1996 en reunión de la Junta de Directores del ICSB (Montreal, Canadá) se presenta la documentación que había pedido la junta más petición de ser anfitriones de la conferencia mundial del 2001 (que luego cambió a ser la petición oficial para la conferencia del 2002 del ICSB). La Junta de Directores Mundial aprobó todo lo sometido.

Posterior al 2 de noviembre de 1996 se envían cartas a las diferentes universidades invitándoles a ser socios fundadores del ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean. Se co-auspicia actividad del Executive Business Roundtable con el Dr. David Birch el 13 de marzo del 1997 que marca la primera actividad en que participa ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean.

En abril de 1997 se invita a todos los que han contestado en la afirmativa y pagado membresía, a la primera reunión de membresía. El 3 de mayo de 1997 se celebra la primera Reunión de membresía del ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean. Ahí se elige directiva del primer año quien procede a crear la corporación sin fines de lucro "ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean".

En octubre de 1997 ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean co-auspicia el segundo Executive Business Roundtable con Tom Cannon. En marzo de 1998 visita la Isla la entonces Presidenta de ICSB Lois Stevenson quien también participó en el tercer Executive Business Roundtable que co-auspició el ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean. El Dr. William Bygrave fue el orador del cuarto Executive Business Roundtable que co-auspicio el ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean en marzo de 1999.

En el año 2000 el ICSB- Puerto Rico & Caribbean celebró su primer Entrepreneurship Summit. En junio del 2002 la filial de Puerto Rico y el Caribe fue la anfitriona de la Conferencia Mundial Anual del ICSB con una participación de representantes de 33 países de todas las regiones del mundo.

Somos todavía una filial joven, que cree en la misión de ICSB, varios presidentes de filial, han servido a la Junta de Directores de ICSB en varias capacidades—como Presidentes el Dr. José M. Romaguera; 2003-2004; 2006-2007; la Dra. Zulma Quiñones y Dr. Jaime Santiago Canet, han servido como SVP de Mercadeo por más de dos años.
